Other useful collection and sorting tips:  Clean bench or manufacturing work areas and machinery using precious metals between uses.  Precious metal particulate can accumulate on the floor and carpets, in filters, on tools, wipes and gloves, dust, rinse/strip/plating tanks and other forms of media.  Use a separate shop vacuum and save the vacuum bags.  Various other products exist that may assist in collection, like sink trap or dust collector systems.  High grade material should be collected separately from low grade material when feasible.  Unless already alloyed, there may be price and return advantages in accumulating each type of precious metal separately.  Additional weight of non-precious metal components such as plastics and stainless steel can add refining costs.  It may be advised that these materials are removed prior to shipping.  Glines & Rhodes, Inc. has an excellent sampling process to help determine which media and collection methods are productive.
